About

Kung Chun Chan (b. 1988, Hong Kong) is a London based artist and art educator with an award winning product design background and additional practices in design and illustration. Trained in product design at Birmingham City University, he now works across oil, watercolors, color pencil, water soluble media and clay.

Chan’s portraits often converse with stone inspired sculptural forms and an evolving system of symbols—stars, points and angular shapes, that reflect the relations between individuals and society, questioning how belonging, distance and movement shape identity. His work is characterized by a restrained palette and an attention to the material traces of time, linking painting and sculpture.

His practice continues from earlier reflections on daily life in Hong Kong, as seen in ” The Chair in the Room” artbook, which captured a personal perspective within a rapidly changing society. His early zines explored illustration and experimental storytelling, and his projects were recognized in both art and design contexts, including international award winning product design. He is currently focusing on developing painting and sculpture, while actively engaging in exhibitions, teaching and community based collaborations.
